Japan Travel Tips Part 1

Hey guys, hope you're all well. So I thought I would give you guys some tips about Japan if any of you are curious or are wanting to go. Now I have mentioned some things in my previous blog posts but I will reiterate and give some actual tips from my own experience. Any specific questions you might have do not be afraid to ask!

So first things first try your best to pick a hotel that is near to a train station. We did not even know our hotel was near a station so it was lucky. I know it sounds a bit silly but in Tokyo you will do a lot of walking and it gets tiring especially if you are there when it is summer because it is so humid and hot. Being near a station will save you so much time and just make getting to places easier. Especially if you do a lot of shopping.

Second tip is to make an itinerary. A little organisation never hurt anybody XD. To make the most of your time in Tokyo or Japan it is helpful as there is a lot to see. Try and plan your days with the things you really want to do and make sure you research places you want to go and if they will be open. We researched every area in Tokyo and the things we wanted to do and see in that area and planned the days around that. Makes life a little easier. Also if you can, plan where you would like to eat dinner because it can be a headache finding somewhere to eat with an English menu if you just wander around aimlessly. Although if you enjoy fish and the like you can pretty much go anywhere and eat really well even if they do not have an English menu. All you have to do is point at what you want.

Third tip is the time it takes to travel to Japan. It is roughly a 12 hour journey if you get a direct flight, longer if you have a connection. Definitely make sure that you are in comfortable clothes and shoes and maybe bring a change of underpants, socks and a top with you. My flight was quite long because I had a stop over and I cannot tell you how ick I felt when landing in Tokyo. It was so nice to be able to change into fresh clothes. Also bring a travel pillow with you! Most airlines provide you with pillows but they are not usually great and I ended up using mine to support my lower back and my actual pillow for my head. I cannot tell you the difference this made cause let's be real, airplane seats have no lumbar support. Also make sure that you walk around because no one wants thrombosis.

Fourth tip is although you can take cash out in Tokyo with your debit card it does accumulate charges (dependant on your bank of course). If you do not have a problem with that then by all means do so. You can go to any 7/11 and use the ATMs they have. Otherwise I recommend changing up the majority of your money beforehand as Tokyo is largely a cash society.

Fifth tip is make sure you fill out all the forms you need on the plane before you actually get off and head to customs. Because otherwise it takes a while if you have not filled out the forms and you have to wait with all the other people who have not filled out their forms. It really just makes getting through customs easier and quicker. Also do not freak out at customs because they take your picture and fingerprints for security purposes. So remember to bring a pen along!
