Berlin Photo Diary

Hey guys! Long time no see! I know I probably say this every single time :/. It has been a crazy busy month and I am sad that I have not had the time to update the blog. Time sometimes just seems to get away from me! I hope that everyone has had a wonderful Christmas filled with lots and lots of food (I am still in a food coma!) and lots of drink (because of course XP). Now time for New Year!

So I recently went on a quick trip to Berlin. I have heard about Christmas Markets (we have a wonderful one down at South Bank during Christmas) but I've heard the best ones are in Germany. I love Christmas and that whole build up to Christmas even though London with its weird weather did not feel all too Christmas-sy. So it was off to...

And he Christmas Markets! XD The first market was based around the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church which is located on the Kurfurstendamm and was literally a 5/10 minute walk away from the hotel we stayed at. Due to it being cold out here it truly felt like Christmas was coming!

The Markets all have little wooden huts selling all ranges of items from chocolate, biscuits and nuts to homemade wares such as vases and candle holders to wonderful christmas items such as baubles, nutcrackers and figurines. And the food, the food is perhaps the best part of the markets. You can usually always find a bratwurst (and they are sooooooo good!).

The next market and by far my favourite is the Gendarmenmarkt. You have to pay 1 euro entry but it is totally worth it. The surroundings are beautiful (I suggest if you do visit these markets to go in the evening because it looks much better and the atmosphere is more electric!). It is based in the middle of the Concert Hall and two cathedrals. And it is absolutely beautiful. This is probably one of the most busy markets and the only one with actual restaurants that I visited. And the food and service here is really good. They also have live music on the stage in front of the concert hall which just adds to the feel.

Definitely get yourself some gluhwein mit schuss which is basically with extra alcohol. It tastes really good and adds a little something extra to the taste (better than normal mulled wine if you ask me!). These markets are definitely places to indulge and enjoy good views and good food.

The last thing before is probably the most famous landmark in Berlin, the Brandenburger Tor. Which again, either in the daytime or at night is very beautiful especially at night all lit up. There is a starbucks on the corner where you can people watch and enjoy a nice warm drink.

There are many other markets to go and see, especially in Berlin but I would definitely recommend Gendarmenmarkt.

Hope you guys have a good New Year.

Till next time xx
